Starling Taxidermy Class with Katie Innamorato
Date: Saturday, September 19th Time: 12-7pm Admission: $275 Location: Morbid Anatomy Museum, 424 Third Avenue, 11215 Brooklyn NY
This class will introduce students to basic small bird taxidermy processes. Each student will be provided with their own starling; a non native and invasive species, which they will skin, flesh, tumble, and prep for mounting. Students will learn how to mount a bird using its skull, make an armature, and learn how to preserve the skin and pose it. Students will learn how to make a custom body for their specimens using an old traditional taxidermy technique of wrapping a body. Using the carcass for reference, students will learn how to build up and craft the bodies. Legalities of working with birds and bird parts will also be discussed. A copy of the MBTA will be brought to class and passed around to students. Katie will provide all specimens, materials, and tools for the class. Each student will leave with his or her own finished mount.
Katie Innamorato is one of the Morbid Anatomy taxidermists in residence and is a professionally trained taxidermy artist. She is an active MART and Garden State Taxidermist Association member.
