For the Sake of the Song's MAINE EVENT
Thursday Dec. 1st is For the Sake of the Song's MAINE EVENT with Maine singer/songwriters Putnam Smith, Lisa Redfern, and Somerville resident troubadour Greg Klyma. Doors at 7pm, music at 7:30pm. $8/advance and $10/door.

Putnam Smith, who hails from Portland, Maine, could be an old-world troubadour fresh from the 19th Century. After all, he lives in a log cabin, plays his Grandfather's banjo, and has printed up the jackets of his new CD on an antique Letterpress. Yet this rootsy multi-instrumentalist songwriter, steeped as he is in old-time Appalachian traditions, is very much a storyteller for the modern age. His latest release, "We Could Be Beekeepers" shot right up to #2 the month it was released, charting 3 songs in the top ten (www.folkradio.org). Selected as an "Emerging Artist" at the Falcon Ridge Folk Festival (2011), and noted as "One To Watch" (Rob Reinhart, Acoustic Cafe), Putnam has begun to establish himself as an acoustic tour-de-force not only in his hometown of Portland, but as a nationally touring musician as well.

Lisa Redfern is an award winning singer-songwriter from Maine with 8 solo recordings to her credit. She has opened for notables, such as Livingston Taylor, David Mallet and The Roches and has shared the stage with Pete Seeger. For over 25 years, Lisa's music has brought joy and comfort to hundreds of thousands.

Greg Klyma is the Rust Belt vagabond - a home-cooked meal and a Vaudeville show in a fast food, karaoke world. As Sarah Craig (manager, Caffe Lena) says, "The stories blend seamlessly into songs, evoking a flavor of Mark Twain, Woody Guthrie and David Sedaris." A prolific songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and seasoned performer, Klyma brings to every stage a catalog of songs that assume audiences are both smart and able to laugh.
