Will Franken in
"Dieter Und Sheila At The San Francisco International Youth Hostel"
Opening December 21 through December 23
San Francisco, CANovember 3, 2011 Renowned satirist/humorist/absurdist Will Franken ("Best Comedian" and "San Francisco's Patron Saint of Misrule") returns to the Eureka Theatre in December for his first San Francisco appearances in over three months, presenting "Dieter Und Sheila At The San Francisco International Youth Hostel" with Combined Artform. If you haven't seen what Will Franken can do in a theatrical setting with 90 minutes to himself and a qualified sound/light technician working in tandem with his manic talent. . .well, in a nutshell, think comedy show meets Pink Floyd. And if you haven't seen Will Franken at all think of a one-man American version of "Monty Python's Flying Circus" (with a hint of Lenny Bruce sprinkled in for satirical good measure). This limited three-night holiday run of Franken's one-man, multi-character comedy performances is guaranteed to expand your mind at the same time it splits your sides.
Will Franken presents his first ever long-form holiday-themed love story, "Dieter Und Sheila At The San Francisco International Youth Hostel" a story of thwarted romance between a shy Viennese entomology student and a promiscuous Australian girl of limited intelligence. Dieter longs to be close to Sheila, yet the blokes from Down Under, staying in the same hostel, have customary first dibs on her. All is unrequited frustration and confusion until the hostel's resident psychiatrist, Dr. Herringbone, informs Dieter of the as yet little known "Australian Phenomenon of Sexual Propinquity" namely, whereas two drops of mercury placed on a horizontal surface will invariably congeal into one substance, whenever an Australian girl takes up residency in the same hostel as young men from back home, she cannot resist the overpowering urge to have her supple thighs groped by them whilst laying on the sofa in the common area and drinking prodigious amounts of vodka. The only hope remaining for Dieter to win the hand of his beloved Sheila is to cease being AUSTRIAN and become AUSTRALIAN with a little help from crusty Outback veteran and current SF hostel maintenance man Grit Dirtman. It's a multi-character, multicultural romp of sex, romance, intelligence, culture, and hilarity. Slightly more vulgar than Rushmore, a bit less tender than Pygmalion, a tad more intellectual than Animal House, and just as bawdy as the Canterbury Tales "Dieter Und Sheila" is a holiday treat not to be missed! Armed with what The New York Times describes as a "highly developed sense of the absurd", Will Franken (www.willfranken.com) brings life's inherent weirdness to the stage, skewering a broad range of cultural strongholds and character types. Since emigrating to San Francisco, Franken has been named "Best Comedian" and "San Francisco's Patron Saint of Misrule" by the SF Weekly and "Best Alternative to Psychedelic Drugs" by the SF Bay Guardian. He made his television debut on BBC America's "The World Stands Up", has performed in numerous international comedy festivals, including the renowned "Just for Laughs" in Montreal, and has appeared twice now on Marc Maron's popular "WTF" podcast. When he isn't performing his patented live one-man theatrical absurdity, he spends his time writing and producing his critically-acclaimed series of online comedy albums: Things We Did Before Reality.
