Gloria in excelsis Deo! An Angelic Christmas "Glory to God in the highest!" the angels sang to announce the birth of the Christ Child, and Ensemble VIII joins their glorious chorus with angelic songs of Christmas to fill the sacred space of St. Louis's gorgeous Chapel. Traditional carols and chorales will warm your heart, and soaring anthems and motets will thrill your spirit in this not-to-be-missed holiday concert! Both Human and Divine Songs of Fathers and Children From transcendent love to tragic grief, the vast range of human emotions possible between fathers and their children is immense. This concert scales the heights with Jacob Handl's infectious Latin setting of the Lord's Prayer and Heinrich Schütz's beloved German setting of John 3:16, then plunges the depths with Thomas Tomkin's haunting When David Heard and Josquin's elegant Absalon, fili mi. The centerpiece of the concert is the highly dramatic masterpiece of early oratorio, Giacomo Carissimi's Jephte, which begins in jubilant celebration, rises to glorious triumph, and ends in tears of lamentation. Finale V! Voices in Celebration Ensemble VIII ends our Fifth Season with a bang! The celebration features exuberant works of joy and thankfulness that express our feelings on this happy occasion. Works by Palestrina, Byrd, and Gibbons will raise the roof. And to connect the circle of our first five years, we'll bring back gems from our very first concert, including excerpts from Josquin's most beautiful Missa de Beata Virgine, as well as our all-time favorite, Robert Parson's ethereal Ave Maria. We end season five with hearts full of gratitude to all who have supported us over these years and with highest expectations and excitement for the wonderful years to come. Please join us for this festive finale celebrating a truly joyful milestone! Friday, Apr 29, 2016 at 7:30p St. Louis Catholic Church Chapel
