Writers Block: Carol Muske-Dukes, I Married the Ice-Pick Killer
Howl! Arts and Howl! Happening present... Writers Block A week of Staged Readings to benefit the Actors Fund.
Friday, September 11: Carol Muske-Dukes I Married the Ice-Pick Killer A play about a marriage between an actor and a poet that takes place after the death of the actor-husband, Hilton Als has hailed the play as a "living kind of poem" . The actor's widow believes that her spouse is still alivebecause he was such a gifted and transformative artistand so elusive emotionally in real life. The play begins with an idyllic re-creation of the two meeting in Italy; moves at an accelerated pace through years of the relationship, and returns again and again to the unanswered questions of a great love "undone" by art and psychological suffering. The poetry inherent in the dialogue and plot challenge assumptions of "what really happened" in this marriage of two artists seeking either truth or love.
