Bobby Sweet and Closer Still

Tonight's Sampler features two artists who have seem to have been born with the gentle, acoustic sounds of folk music running through their veins. Sweet's New Folk/Americana style has drawn comparisons to Jackson Browne, Guy Clark, and a countrified Bruce Springsteen. He is a sixth-generation musician who began his performing career in his father's band at age seven. Bobby was selected as a Kerrville New Folk Finalist in 2011. In recent years he has served as a member of Arlo Guthrie's touring band.
Closer Still is Maggie, Maynah, and Millie Goble, three sisters, two of them twins, who grew up singing together. Accompanied by Jason Checkla on guitar, the group draws on folk, pop, jazz, indie, and soul to create an immediately appealing sound. The variety of voices in the group help to accomplish an incomparable harmonic blend that is both aurally and visually enchanting.
