The Clinking
Embarking on their sixth year as creative partners, Julia Rae Antonick and Jonathan Meyer continually heighten the risk and challenge for each other and for the audience. The Clinking continues this vein of risk-taking as Antonick and Meyer approach narrative fairy tale structures with an eye on deconstructing the symbolism of the motifs into non-narrative forms. With dynamic movement and attention to physical connection and momentum, the duo harvest and evoke the fraught symbolism of power dynamics in relation to tensions created by forced intimacy.
The electricity of Antonick and Meyer onstage and their shared ability for physically demanding and risky movement heightens the anxieties inherent within fairy tales. Extremes of proximity, tempo, and perspective in choreography interweave with the magical and multi-layered sounds created by long-time collaborator Joe St. Charles.
