SLANTY EYED MAMA LIVE AT THE FLYING BEAVER PUBARET
SLANTY EYED MAMA WILL ROCK YOUR BEAVER!
Two special concerts of explosive of hip hop, spoken word, comedy and rock which turns multicultural pop art on its ear. Artists in residence at the Smithsonian Institution for two years running and cultural ambassadors to countless women of color, they will perform a killer set of music, words and edgy iconoclastic comedy that tears down walls and shifts thinking. Lyricist and singer Kate Rigg (Lady-K) and electric violinist Lyris Hung are two good asian girls gone bad-assed. They met while studying at the Juilliard School and have pioneered a street infused classically based "nuyorasian sound." Kate is well known to Toronto audiences for her fast talking potty mouthed stand up comedy which now infuses the dynamic sound of Lyris' searing electric violin. Lyris has played with Jay Z, Bono, and tours regularly with the Indigo Girls.
Slanty Eyed Mama have headlined the PBS special "Race is the Place" taped at New York's legendary Nuyorican Poets Café (where they are a favorite featured act) and have rocked LA Grand Performances, The Michigan Womyn's Music Festival, Pridefest NY, Asian Heritage Months across the country, Symposia for Women in Performance, The Comedy Central Stage, Harvard University, NYU, Columbia, and Soundfest New York.
