Lily Pads presents Hoots and Hellmouth with Fly Around
We close out our 2011 season with one of the best live bands in the land. Seriously.
Philadelphia's Hoots and Hellmouth is a live band, first and foremost. The band owes its tight live performance to touring incessantly since the release of their debut self-titled album in 2007. Two years later, they released their second record, The Holy Open Secret . Foot-stomping, hand-clapping and three-part harmonies dominate their invigorating live shows, and the band attempted to capture that electric energy on Holy . "We wanted to try to get a little bit more of that live, raw vibe in there," guitarist/vocalist founder Sean Hoots admits.
Road warriors to the bitter end, they've somehow found time to enter the studio twice in the last year to produce two records showcasing their forward-thinking roots/soul music. Their latest offering, the full-length Salt, was recorded in their hometown of Philadelphia. The result speaks volumes to the evolution of a band committed to pushing their boundaries and exploring new sonic horizons.
Lyrically, Sean Hoots has always endeavored to keep a keen eye on the craft of songwriting, and Salt showcases the artist on top of his game.
One thing that won't change any time soon is the band's love of the road. Touring the old-fashioned way (relentlessly!), the band performs in all manner of venues on their own and with friends like Dr. Dog, O'Death, Heartless Bastards, Langhorne Slim, Grace Potter, etc. We are thrilled to have them coming our way December 2nd.
Southern Rhode Island favorites Fly Around share the bill, with authentic old-time tunes. Fly Around features Sandol Astrausky on fiddle and Rory McLeod on guitar, stand-up bass, banjo....alright, just about anything.
