PRESS:

"Claudia Russell is a vocalist in the old-fashioned sense. She can really sing. Not only does she have an impressive set of pipes, she interprets songs rather than merely conveys the lyrics. Claudia's new CD is a professional work of strong musicality delivered by a superior voice in the crowded field of singer-songwriters."  ~Rich Warren, Sing Out Magazine

ARTIST BIOGRAPHY:

Claudia Russell is a powerful singer, gifted guitar stylist, and award-winning songwriter from Berkeley, CA. Her husband, Bruce Kaplan, also performs with her on mandolin, guitar and vocals. Together, they play a unique blend woven from blues, country, pop and traditional music to form an eclectic sound all their own. Russell has an expressive voice that is as much at home on a whispery ballad as on a full-tilt Buddy Holly-style romp. Her songs are heartfelt, can be both deep and whimsical, and are always memorable.

Russell and Kaplan have performed all over the US, including top venues like the Freight & Salvage, Club Passim, McCabe's, the prestigious Kerrville Folk Festival, Boston Folk Festival, and Sisters Folk Festival. Russell has shared stages with Dave Carter and Tracy Grammer, Loudon Wainwright III, Steve Forbert, Tish Hinojosa, Kris Kristoffersen, Willie Nelson, Darryl Purpose, Peter Rowan, Rosalie Sorrels and Bill Staines, among many others.

Claudia has released her fourth CD, All Our Luck is Changing, with both critical acclaim and a warm reception from radio. (Claudia is a favorite on many NPR stations.) Claudia's first CD, Song Food, earned her Best New Artist honors in 2001 from radio station WUMB in Boston. She has also been a finalist in songwritng competitions at both the Kerrville and Sisters Folk Festivals.
