Page on Stage: the Banned Books Show
In this special edition of the popular monthly Page on Stage radio show, in association with the countywide literary festival the Big Read, an ensemble of North bay actors will perform selections from ground-breaking books that have been banned from schools and libraries for religious, racial and political reasons. Hosted by writer David Templeton and headlined by actress-comedienne Debi Durst, the line-up also includes Eric Burke (recently seen as Col. Jessup in the Ross Valley Players A Few Good Men), John Moran (founder of the North Bay Theater Group), Eric Thompson (best known for playing Scrooge in the Sonoma County Reps annual A Christmas Carol), plus Sybil Hunt, John Browning and others. Selections will include Catcher in the Rye, Origin of the Species, Wind in the Willows, Of Mice and Men, Light in the Attic, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, the Satanic Verses, the Bible, Harry Potter, Johnny Got His Gun, and others. There will also be a medley of lyrics from famously banned songs, including Louie, Louie (banned for suspicions that it was about sex), Cold Turkey (banned for its supposedly attractive descriptions of addiction, and Its the End of the World as We Know It (banned after 9-11 for its uncanny descriptions of terrorist attack). The show is a fast one-hour, and will be broadcast on KRCB 91.1 on Wednesday, October 25.
