A CELTIC CHRISTMAS, with Robbie O'Connell, Aoife Clancy, and George Keith
This celebration of the mid-winter season has become one of the Homegrown's most popular shows, presenting tunes from the little known Kilmore carols of Wexford to the Irish-American vaudeville stage, from Winter Solstice traditions to Christian to pagan. Join us for "A Celtic Christmas", as we present Robbie O'Connell and Aoife Clancy, with the virtuoso George Keith on fiddle and concertina Aoife Clancy comes from the small town of Carrick-on-Suir, in Co Tipperary, Ireland, where her musical career began at an early age. Her father, Bobby Clancy of the legendary Clancy Brothers, placed a guitar in her hands at age ten; by age fourteen she was playing with her father in nearby pubs; and in 1995 she joined the acclaimed group "Cherish the Ladies". "A National Treasure... a man blessed with an enviable turn of phrase and a gift for melody bestowed on only the few," is how Ireland's top music magazine, Hot Press, describes Robbie O'Connell. He was born in Waterford, Ireland, grew up in Co Tipperary, and in 1977 joined the Clancy Brothers, with whom he has recorded 3 albums.
