Welcome to the new House of Contraption! Circus Contraption, Seattles own off-beat one-ring circus troupe, moves its home base to the Theo Chocolate building in Fremont this October, just in time for a hair-raising Halloween housewarming party. The Circus is known far and wide for its popular Halloween events-- this one will be extra-special since it represents a homecoming to the nine-year-old troupes original stomping grounds. Fans and friends are invited to celebrate Circus Contraptions return to the Center of the Universe by checking out their new digs on Friday, October 26.
Early evening guests will be treated to an intimate Haunted Housewarming Cocktail Party beginning at 7:30pm, complete with personal guided tour of the new space (and all its special Halloween mysteries) by a bonafide Circus Contraption performer, a complimentary Wicked Welcome cocktail, hors d'ouevres, entertainment by the legendary Baby Gramps, and Halloween games, Circus Style. Then the doors creeak open to the masses at 9:30pm for the Haunted Housewarming Blowout: a celebration of Halloween the way only Circus Contraption knows how! The ghastly goings-on include live performances by Circus Contraption and special guests Nanda, Scarlet Room, Vince Miranda, and Holly Chernobyl-bound to bring on a terminal case of the jitters, the willies and the creeps! Bring your trick-or-treat bags! Please note that both the Cocktail Party and the Bash are 21 and over (with ID).
A little info about some of the evenings entertainment: Circus Contraption Halloween is a rare opportunity for the Circus Contraption Band to let their hair down and play the music that is too loud, too rock n' roll, or too sinister for the Circus Contraption stage show. The band, a gypsy carnival junk orchestra consisting of 7 musicians and umpteen instruments, will be accompanied by generous helpings of Halloween hijinks from the Circus Contraption puppeteers, strumpets, acrobats and riffraff. http://www.circuscontraption.com
Baby Gramps - A Popeye-voiced, old-timey, bizarro balladeer described by some as an attic crammed with curiosities of another era. His steel-guitar workouts and guttural growls, hoots, and whispers combine with a sense of fun as he rummages through vintage jazz, sea chanteys, nonsense songs, poetry, Delta blues, Tin Pan Alley, world music and forgotten folk tunes. http://www.babygramps.com
Nanda - Four young and extremely well-toned acrobats from Port Townsend who combine stage combat, break dancing and comedy to create a show that resembles a Kung Fu movie come alive. http://www.nandatown.com
Scarlet Room Described as Masterminds who founded a musical style theyve dubbed cabaret rock, twenty-somethings Aleksandra Weil and Eloise Govedare are a match made in musical heaven in the vein of a younger, hipper and female Kander and Ebb or Weill and Brecht. http://www.scarlet-room.com/
Vince Miranda - The 15 year old Johnny Cash sensation.
Holly Chernobyl - Stephen King's "Carrie" in a one-woman puppet show.
