BrokeBACH Mountain
LGCSF's season opens in November with a program entitled "BrokeBACH Mountain." The concert will feature an eclectic mix of hit music from classical composers Bach, Offenbach, and P.D.Q. Bach--and country! So, if you're more into kissing cowpokes than powdered wigs, then don't fear. The chorus will be performing contemporary and country-western music (not to mention a line dance!), including songs inspired by the movie that brought queer cowboys into the mainstream: "Brokeback Mountain." The heart of this humorous and enlightened chorus concert is a piece that blends Bach's baroque style with classical Greek drama and tales of the Wild West: "Oedipus Tex," an opera in one cathartic act, featuring guest soloist Dr. Timothy Seelig, Artistic Director and Conductor of the San Francisco Gay Men's Chorus. Members of the San Francisco Lesbian/Gay Freedom Band, and the Freedom Band's Artistic Director Jadine Louie, will provide a small instrumental group for this exciting and collaborative production!
"BrokeBACH Mountain" will be an event to remember, and LGCSF's Artistic Director William "Billy" Sauerland encourages all audience members to join the fun by dressing in their Western finery. Admire your fellow audience members over our tasty intermission concessions. On another practical note, the venue for "BrokeBACH Mountain," the Mission Cultural Center, is located at Mission and 25th Streets and may be reached by Muni lines 14 and 49 and is a short walk from the 24th Street BART station. Street parking is available in the neighborhood, and there is a small city parking lot at 24th street and Mission (behind MacDonald's) as well as a larger garage at 21st street and Valencia (at Bartlett). The Mission Cultural Center is wheelchair accessible.
