The Assemblage Album Release Show with Special Guests Arc Iris and Anthony Ruptak!
Join us at Leon as we celebrate the album release of "Nature V Nature" by The Assemblage, an experimental sound and video creation collaboration led by musician Josh Makey and artist Jared David Paul Anderson.
To celebrate this phenomenal evening of art and music, we have invited Arc Iris, a genre-bending group that often shifts between cabaret-infused jazz, orchestral sophistication, grimy outlaw country, delicate and whimsical harmonies, and big-band exhilaration sometimes all in the same song.
Just to really make this night completely unbelievable, we have also invited the raw and wild beautify of Anthony Ruptak to open the evening with a rare, acoustic performance.
Doors at 8pm. First performance to begin promptly at 8:30
About The Assemblage: The Assemblage started off as a bedroom project in 2002. After a number of years and locations a band was formed with a group of great people/artist. Along the way good fortune struck and a collaboration with Jared David Paul Anderson was formed and a video was created which directly relates to the debut album.
How has nature changed? More specifically, how was the American idea of nature formed? The Puritans thought of nature as a city on a hill, a place of freedom and joy but at the same time a place of harshness, fear and evil, a place where witches would wait in the wild. As the country grew and the population moved west, we looked at nature as something that should be made into an agrarian image, tamed and conquered. At the end of the 19th century, ideas arose that nature should be something that is preserved and saved. This was exemplified in the founding of our first national parks. This EP is our attempt at exploring the changing views of nature in our society.

About Arc Iris: Arc Iris has garnered much attention and acclaim since the release of 2014's self-titled debut album on ANTI (US / World) and Bella Union (EU). They've toured with St. Vincent, Jeff Tweedy, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, and FREEMAN (Gene Ween), playing festivals such as Bonnaroo (US) and End of the Road (UK).
They're "informed as much by Joni Mitchell as it is by '70s prog-rock, Björk's sonic experiments, and sweeping film soundtracks. It's hypnotic." "It's named after an elegant term for a rainbow, and the multifaceted unity of that phenomenon seems a good signifier for what you hear on the band's self-titled debut: delicate folk ... Nilsson-inspired chanteusery, classical-infused orchestrations, swatches of soulful country, and more." --Boston Globe--

About Anthony Ruptak: "Ruptak performs with raw, wild soul. His raspy voice channels a sound beyond his years, like a railroad bluesman trapped in a mountaineer's heart." ~Luke Redfield
"Leaving the earth bare and naked and ashamed, but somehow grateful...Anthony sings backwards into the afternoon, over the land." ~ The Denver Syntax
