Event
Admission Day Dinner at the Old Mill
This year Alan Jutzi, Avery Chief Curator, Rare Books, at The Huntington Library will speak about "The Huntington Library and Southern California History" Mr. Jutzi will discuss how and why Henry E. Huntington, having no personal interest in California history or in documenting his own contributions to it, happened to make this treasure of information so accessible to the public. He will explore why, in 1916, Huntington began to collect California and Western American history, and after his death how the library became a major resource for the study of Southern California. As a longtime Huntington curator, Mr. Jutzi gives his own interpretation of key people and seminal collections in this development and recounts stories of his own encounters with donors, historians, and regional archival collections.
The evening will begin at 6PM with a cocktail reception and preview of the new California Art Club exhibition, "A Toast to California: Regional and Seasonal". At 7PM Dinner will be served on the Pomegranate Patio followed by Alan Jutzi's talk.
