Damo Suzuki (Germany), Crude Hill and David Daniell
HOLY CRAP!  The legendary DAMO SUZUKI comes to AS220 - and his band will be all-Providence musicians - like, whoa...

Kenji Suzuki, born January 16, 1950, in Japan, popularly nicknamed DAMO SUZUKI, is a singer probably best known for his membership in the legendary German krautrock group CAN.  Suzuki spent the late 1960s wandering around Europe, often busking, during which time he would only have been a teenager. When Malcolm Mooney left Can after recording their first album Monster Movie, Holger Czukay and Jaki Liebezeit encountered Suzuki singing on a street in Munich, Germany whilst the two were sitting outside at a street caf. They invited him to join the group, and he did, performing with them that evening. Suzuki was with Can from 1970 to 1973, recording a number of well-regarded albums such as Tago Mago and Ege Bamyasi. His freeform, often improvised lyrics, sung in no one particular language gelled with Can's rolling, psychedelic sound. Suzuki converted to the Jehovah's Witness faith when he married his German girlfriend, who was also a Jehovah's Witness, after the release of the album Future Days, and retired from music in 1974. He returned to music in 1983, and currently leads what is known as "Damo Suzuki's Network" - as he tours, he performs live improvisational music with various local musicians (so-called "Sound Carriers") from around the world, thus building up a 'network' of musicians that he has and can collaborate with.  Tonight (and ONLY tonight) Damo's live band will be made up of local improvisors from such acts as BARNACLED, THE EYESORES, MANBEARD, XERXES and more...

CRUDE HILL is Leif and Erin of Providence, RI, USA  - amazing people, amazing artists/screenprinters and amazing musicians (ex-Force Field, ex-Urdog), whoa, yeah - their music sometims gives me shivers...definitely check this shit out!

DAVID DANIELL from Chicago, kicks off this special night:  "Have you heard the raw, minimal howl that rises from the late-night, backwoods campfires at Table of the Elements? If so, you know the work of David Danielleven if you don't yet recognize the name. Daniell is the head of both of composer Rhys Chatham's current ensembles; he's the lead guitarist in Jonathan Kane's rollicking band, February; he performs regularly in a duo with Tortoise's Doug McCombs; he has collaborated with a Who's Who of today's finest, including Tim Barnes, Thurston Moore and Loren Connors; and his guitar work with his own band, San Agustin, is the stuff of which fleeting blues-drone dreams are made."
