Mara Getz in "Who Put The Broad In Broadway"
Mara Getz will perform her latest one woman show "Who Put The Broad In Broadway" at The Arthur Newman Theatre at The Joslyn Center in Palm Desert on Sunday, October 23, 2011 at 2 PM. The show will feature songs from the Broadway stage that have become standards in the Great American Songbook - but with a little hint of 'broad'. Ms. Getz will be joined by musical director and pianist Charlie Creasy and presented as part of Les Michaels' Life Is A Cabaret Sunday Series.
Mara Getz career began at five in church where her mother, acting as choir director, nurtured her talent for singing and acting. In 1982, the farm girl from Baker, Minnesota packed her bags and moved to Los Angeles and within no time was headlining in the nightclub circuit, which brought her to the attention of talent executives, and she was soon appearing on TV's "The Merv Griffin Show", "You Write The Songs", "Cop Rock", and as a 1985 finalist on "Star Search". Since then she has appeared at clubs across the country, opening for such legendary entertainers as Bill Cosby, Joan Rivers, Phyllis Diller and George Burns, and at Las Vegas' Caesars Palace for Jay Leno. She's done multiple concert tours of Europe and Asia, and theatrical roles in several musicals including Amanda McBroom's "Heartbeats" and "Mail" by Michael Rupert and Jerry Colker.
Mara has recorded several CD albums including: "In Your Eyes", "George & Ira Gershwin: A Musical Celebration", and "Cole Porter: A Musical Toast". Since moving to Palm Springs, Ms. Getz is a familiar face in major venues and local clubs as well as giving back to the community by lending her talents to many charity events. In her spare time, Mara is a brilliant jewelry designer whose work may be found in several boutiques as well as her weekly showings at The Atrium in Rancho Mirage.
