Mash Potangos with Adam Shulman & Katy Stephan
The Mash Potangos trio are hitting the streets of San Francisco this month, making their first appearance on the West Coast. They perform their own arrangements of traditional, nuevo and contemporary tango for their unique instrumental combination, and they often feature local guests. Their performances have been highly-acclaimed in concert halls, traditional tango balls, jazz clubs, loft spaces, bars and cafes across Canada in Banff, Toronto and Montreal. This tango-driven ensemble formed in 2008 at the Banff Centre in the Rocky Mountains of Canada, and have worked with esteemed artists such as Hilario Duran and Victor Simon. The Mash Potangos always make an effort to engage with the local community through collaborations with local musicians and tango dancers. "Open your ears to this bright group and you'll find the warmth, joy, and lovely madness of the Tango rushing in. Patience, precision, and enthusiasmIt's like Santa came down your chimney with a big bag of tango-love and it's not even Christmas!" Adam Kinner, Montreal Jazz journalist
On Friday November 4th, they will be performing at Subterranean Arthouse for an beautiful evening of tango and tango-inspired music. Opening the night will be Katy Stephan (voice) performing an original cycle of intimate contemporary art songs for voice and piano (Adam Shulman), with cello (Alex Kelly).
