CAC Beardsley Community Farm is happy to announce a day of workshopsSkillShare. We hope to bring together individuals with different levels of experience in gardening for a day of learning and connecting. We have three workshops scheduled for the fall SkillShare; please see the following for more in-depth descriptions. Activities will be provided for kids, too! Bring the whole family for this fall community event.

10:00 AM - Tour of CAC Beardsley Community Farm and refreshments
11:00 AM - Vermicomposting with Shannon Elliott Participants will learn how to build a basic worm bin to compost moderate amounts of household kitchen scraps. Each person will take home a simple 5-gallon bucket sized worm bin and a handful of worms to get started. The workshop will discuss creating and maintaining a bin; worm health; potential problems; and uses for the finished vermicompost. Shannon has been composting with worms for 10 years and it is the best way to give seedlings and established plants a growing boost.

1:00 PM - Basics of Beekeeping with Jeff Wyrosdick Learn the basics of beginning beekeeping: honeybee ecology, start up needs, how to set up your hive, and general tasks for maintaining your hive year-round. Weather permitting, participants will have the opportunity to look inside the hive. Jeff Wyrosdick and his family have over 4,000 hives; Jeff has been keeping bees since 1959.

3:00 PM - Cold Weather Gardening with Khann Chov and the Beardsley Farm Team CAC Beardsley Community Farm is holding a Cold Weather Gardening Workshop to give gardeners some tips for extending the growing season. The workshop will address cold weather growing techniques, with a primary focus on building low-tunnels and cold frames with salvaged materials. In addition to showing how these systems are built, workshop attendees will also get some tips on when and what to plant in early spring and late fall.
