The Barn Owls
Vintage Country. One late summer evening, musicians Brittany Newell, Hanna Traynham and Kate Lichtenstein spent hours trading tunes around a woodstove. By the end of the night, The Barn Owls was born. Their newest addition, bassist Katy Harris lays down the strong bass beat, sings sappy country songs, and tells jokes. Newell grew up playing classical violin and piano and learned early on to appreciate the intricacy of old melodies. Traynham's distinct Appalachian claw-hammer banjo style will transport you to a Mt. Airy Fiddler's Convention campsite. Lichtenstein's guitar playing mostly follows in the old time tradition of solid rhythm and bass, but she isn't afraid to take improvisational turns. The Barn Owls bring their formidable musicianship and inventive spark to the early country music tradition. With intuitive finesse, they mix high-energy dance tunes and beautiful three-part harmonies to bring exciting performances to audiences across the region.
