40th Annual Jazz Jam with The CSUB Jazz Collective and Aaron Lington
The Music Program at CSU Bakersfield is pleased to present the 40th Annual Jazz Jam on Friday, March 4, 2016. The concert will feature the music of Grammy winning composer and saxophonist Dr. Aaron Lington, Director of the CSU San Jose Jazz Program. Lington will perform with the CSUB Jazz Ensemble under the direction of Jim Scully for a night of large ensemble jazz music. The concert begins at 8 PM on March 4, 2016, and will be held in the Doré Theatre on the campus of CSUB.
This event - a staple on this campus - is a wonderful opportunity for our students and community to be immersed in the music of a transformative artist. Additionally, the rehearsals with the guest artist give our music students a keen insight into the work, process, and musicianship of our guest artist. A list of past Jazz Jam guest artists includes: Randy Brecker, Bob Florence, Eric Marienthal, Wayne Bergeron, Terry Gibbs, Sammy Nestico, and others.
Dr. Lington is a versatile musician with experience as a composer, arranger, performer and educator. Jim Scully, Director of the CSUB Jazz Ensemble is excited to present his music and share these great tunes with his students and our jazz loving community. This music is a lot of fun. It swings and leaves lots of room for improvisation. I cant wait to share them with the audience!
Tickets are available online at www.BrownPaperTickets (csubjazzjam40.bpt.me) and at the door the night of the concert. Tickets cost $10/general; $8/seniors; $5/students, faculty, staff, and alumni. Children12 and under are FREE.
