Seattle Theatre: What's Next?
Once again, it is time for a little more talk and a lot more action.
After the success of August's Seattle Theatre: What's Next? forum, we decided to do it again. (And hopefully again and again and again, because, really, we should always be looking ahead, thinking forward.)
Seattle Theatre: What's Next? Discussion/Forum 6pm 8pm Ballard Underground - 2220 NW Market Cocktails/Networking/Socializing 8pm 9:30pm+ The People's Pub - 5429 Ballard Ave NW
We balance talk and action with a fast-paced format and moderated group discussion, followed by (if history is to be believed) even more passionate discussion over libations.
We'll start with some progress reports from projects launched at and after the August forum, with project leaders available to share contact information for anyone that wants to join a project team.
10-12 spots available for speakers - three minutes each, with one minute for questions or feedback from the audience. Speakers have a fairly free reign, but to focus them in just a bit, we ask them to describe what they plan to talk about in three words or less (get creative a three word phrase or just three words).
Forget the elevator speech this is the trapped-in-an-elevator speech. Imagine you are trapped in an elevator with an attractive stranger who asks you what you do. When you respond that you work in Seattle theatre, the response is the inevitable "why?"
So, why? Why do you make theatre? Why do you choose to do so in Seattle? What excites you about theatre? Are there defining characteristics to Seattle theatre? Which are your "because of" reasons and your "in spite of" reasons to make theatre here?
After a brief intermission, our moderators will lead the audience in an attempt to compress and extract a single statement from each speaker's presentation. Each statement will be added to one of two lists consensus and contentious.
The goal is to get Seattle theatre artists to collectively put their cards on the table publicly and in collaboration. And there is a real, tangible advantage to be gained. As we encourage more collaboration, each of us can better leverage consensus values and better navigate contention once we've mapped the landscape.
Speakers TBD. Moderated by Peggy Gannon and TBD.
If you are interested in reserving a speaker slot, email Jim Jewell at jamesjewell@comcast.net.
Huge thanks to Ghost Light Theatricals for offering up the Ballard Underground, and to The People's Pub for offering a 10% discount to forum participants.
