Jesse Calixto and Jake Weist began SMOKING BILL as a two piece weed fueled acoustic comic duo in 2001. With songs like "In the Land of Cheese," and "Hemp, Hemp, Hemp," they played coffee shops and college house parties. As their popularity grew, so did their numbers. Soon they found themselves with a bass player, lead guitar player, and a drummer. In 2002, Adam Bruno joined the band. Bringing with him the trumpet that would come to define the future of the Smoking Bill sound. Not soon after, Jake left the band and Jesse remained the front man and song writer. Over the next few years, the band would tour Idaho, Montana, Oregon, Washington and parts of Canada. They were featured in an ad for Vancouver B.C. hash bar, 'The New Amsterdam Café,' in High Times Magazine in in 2003. In 2005 they moved to Seattle and began playing to eager crowds at venues including, but not limited to, The Dubliner, The High Dive, Necter, Nuemos, Chop Suey and even opened for the Super GeeK League at the legendary ShowBox At The Market in down town Seattle. After a brief hiatus in 2008, remaining members of the band came together under the band name, "From the Wombs of Warriors." And after one too many fans asking, "Aren't you the guys from Smoking Bill?" They returned to their roots, and Smoking Bill, resilient as ever, rose again. http://smokingbill.tumblr.com/
