MSA presents Songwriters on Stage
Maine Songwriters Association kicks off their Songwriters on Stage series with a show featuring Caroline Cotter, Heather Hardy, and Peter Alexander, all past winners of MSA's songwriting contest and Martin Swinger, a past winner of the New England Song Contest. Starting in September, the Songwriters on Stage series moves to the first Wednesday of each month featuring some of the best songwriters in Maine and New England.
CAROLINE COTTER Portland, ME based singer-songwriter, Caroline Cotter's debut album, Dreaming as I Do has already received national recognition reaching #5 on the Folk DJ charts in February, with the second most played song of the month, Bella Blue. Dreaming as I Do offers an eclectic mix of melodic honesty, sharing stories and dreams about love, adventure, and searching for home. HEATHER HARDY Winner of the 2013 Maine Songwriting Competition and 2nd place winner of the 2012 New England Songwriting Contest, Heather Hardy is a singer-songwriter living in Bristol, Maine. She plays guitar and ukulele, and has a blast playing her guitar like a stand-up bass. Heather blends her unique voice with rich melodies, often highlighting mouth trumpet instrumentals in her songs. PETER ALEXANDER Peter Alexander's musical resume as a guitarist and songwriter spans decades and includes performances and tours with many legends of rock and folk music. One of the first songs he co-authored, "Hard Lesson to Learn," was recorded by Rod Stewart in 1986, and his Civil War-era song "Vicksburg" (written in 2013) won MSA's 2014 Maine Songwriting Contest, while his "Begging for Changethe Health Care Blues" has been featured many times on Amy Goodman's nationally-syndicated "Democracy Now" radio and TV programs. Peter served for four years as president of Maine Songwriters Association and currently writes the weekly music column for the Coastal Journal. Although he is well-known in mid-coast Maine as a solo performer he often performs with his "Hollowbody Electric Band" whose new CD "Prickly Stickers" will soon be released. peteralexander.us
