The Art & Science of Poker
A good old-fashioned card game can make even the worst of enemies sit down and share a table together for a few hours. No other game does a better job of mixing the raw thrill of the human element with the calm, cool, intellectual rigor of a chess match. Even if you've played before, this class reinforces essential techniques that will improve your poker game and make playing more fun. Focusing on the most popular poker game, Texas Hold 'em, this 2-hour class includes insights on understanding pot odds, betting strategies, how to read your opponents and tips and etiquette on how to handle yourself at the table.

About the Instructor Born in Marin County, Eli McCargar began playing poker with his friends at age 14 and quickly found that he had a knack for taking their money. As his knowledge of the game grew, he played poker casually throughout high school and college to supplement his income. Following college on the East coast, Eli returned to the Bay Area to work at a software startup. At the same time, Eli began a more serious, intellectual approach to poker. Eli plays both tournaments and cash games at local card rooms and has had several strong tournament finishes. Teaching poker is a confluence of several of Eli's passions, namely logic, strategy, people, and listening to himself talk.
