The Struggle for the Soul of Israel: The Challenges to Israel's Democracy (ICC)
Come hear one of the best speechmakers in Israeli politics, Avraham Burg, as he discusses the current challenges of Israel's democracy. Burg has been a committed advocate for pluralism and tolerance in Israeli society and for the separation of politics and religion. He will address issues of religion and state, minority-majority relations, and the Occupation.
What can be done for Israel to truly be a democratic homeland for the Jewish people? And what is the role of the Diaspora in this historic endeavor?
A member of New Israel Fund's International Council, Avraham Burg is a social and political activist and a staunch supporter of peace in the Middle East. The youngest Speaker in the history of the Knesset (19992003), Burg has been a well-known public leader in Israel for over 20 years. He has also served as Executive Chairman of the Jewish Agency for Israel. Burg is author and a popular television personality and a frequent contributor to both Israeli and overseas media.
