TOM WOPAT - I'VE GOT YOUR NUMBER
"A SWANKY, SOPHISTICATED EVENING OF BEAUTIFUL MUSIC!"
"WOPAT IS A CHARMER!"
All it takes is a phrase or two from Tom Wopat's warm, engaging baritone to trigger the desire to hear more. And the more one listens, the better it gets from the way he finds the heart of a song's story to his lyrical phrasing and his gently swinging, jazz-infused rhythms. Wopat's dynamic live show features songs from his critically acclaimed new album, I've Got Your Number, in which he performs new arrangements of Great American songbook classics, as well as contemporary songs of Paul Simon, Bruce Springsteen, James Taylor and more.
One of entertainment's most versatile artists, Tom Wopat is equally at home on stage and screen. He first came to public attention in the late-1970s as the freewheeling Luke Duke on the TV series The Dukes of Hazzard. In 1977, he made his Broadway debut in Cy Coleman's I Love My Wife. Wopat went on to perform in the Tony Award winning City of Angels and Guys and Dolls. He received a Tony nomination for creating the role of Frank Butler in the Broadway revival of Annie Get Your Gun, opposite Bernadette Peters. He received critical raves as Billy Flynn in the Broadway production of Chicago. In 2008, Wopat returned to Broadway as Tom Hurley in A Catered Affair with Faith Prince and Harvey Fierstein, followed by his starring role as Frank Abagnale Sr. in the new Broadway musical adaptation of Catch Me If You Can, created by the Tony-Award winning creators of Hairspray. Most recently he was proud to return to Broadway in the Tony-Award winning play The Trip To Bountiful starring Cicely Tyson.
Though Wopat had never done a sitcom before, he seized the opportunity when Chuck Lorre offered him a leading role in Cybill. Other credits include a recurring role on Home Improvement, the critically acclaimed NBC movie Just My Imagination, and most recently HBO's Taking Chance alongside Kevin Bacon.
But music is his passion, and he has become a successful recording artist with several albums to his credit. At a time when male vocal artists have been in fairly short supply, his singing is a welcome addition. "Performing these songs the way we do in I've Got Your Number is the most creative thing I do," Tom concludes. "It's extremely satisfying and fulfilling. And as long as it feels that way, I'm going to keep right on doing it."
