Music Teacher Showcase
On Saturday, October 22, at 7:30 pm, 20 area music teachers from the public schools and private studios will perform at the 7th Street Theatre in Hoquiam in the second Music Teacher Showcase. The concert will feature both solo and ensemble performances, including piano, strings, woodwinds, brass and voice.
Merry Jo Zimmer (piano), Lindell Stacy Horton (violin), Karen Meikle (violin), and Jenny Leighton (cello) will perform a piano quartet by Spanish composer Joaquin Turina. Meikle and Zimmer will also perform a Brahms trio with French horn player Wendy Koski.
Aberdeen School District teachers Dan and Shannon Patterson will perform two trombone duets. Flute teacher Connie Bevington of Raymond, clarinetist Ray Kahler, and piano teacher Ellen Pickell will perform "Concertante for Flute & Clarinet" by Franz Danzi.
Tenor Ian Dorsch, the director of the Grays Harbor Civic Choir and a voice teacher at Grays Harbor College, will perform a duet with his wife, mezzo-soprano Joy Dorsch, also a voice teacher at Grays Harbor College. Voice teacher Christine Hill and former Hoquiam High School choir director Peter Krum will perform a set of vocal selections.
Voice and piano teacher Kari Hasbrouck and voice teacher Kelsey Bergey will perform vocal solos, and piano teachers Phyllis Pieffer and Merry Jo Zimmer will perform a piano duo, "Children's Games" by Bizet.
Piano teacher Erica Hollen will perform "Rhapsody," a solo piano piece that she composed, and piano teacher Nikkol Daniels will perform a solo and a duet with pianist Glory Haga, "Spanish Intermezzo."
