René Heredia and His Flamenco Fantasy Dance Theatre
This event will be a Gypsy Flamenco program Zapateado " (Footwork), a Spanish equestrian dance of the South of Spain. This dance shows the artistic movements of the Spanish Andalusian and Arabian horses put to flamenco dance. These horses are the forerunners of the American Cowboy and Western horses that were brought to the new world. The first Spanish horses arrived in the Caribbean in the early 1500s. In 1519, Conquistadors re-introduced horses to North America. Fifteen horses were brought by the Cortez expedition and were imported by Spanish homesteaders to Mexico and New Mexico. This dance is done in beautiful Spanish riding costumes with a riding crop. It is a very intricate dance of upper and lower torso and difficult footwork. The time signature is 6/8 time in the key of C major.
