The Beatles in "HELP!" with special guest Ivor Davis
In 1964 U.K. journalist Ivor Davis was assigned to hang out, travel with and get to know the four members of a new pop band from Liverpool who were tearing up the world with their music. The Beatles had taken the pop charts by storm in America and were embarking on their first U.S. tour.
London-born Daviswho just the year or so before had been posted as the West Coast correspondent for the London Daily Express--tagged along for the entire tour, filing stories and taking pictures for the paper with a daily circulation of 4-million. Few people would have guessed that rock n' roll was about to enter a new and critical phase, with the Beatles leading the revolution.
In 2014, Davis published his memoirs of that incredible journey titled "The Beatles and Me on Tour". He was the only British daily newspaper correspondent to cover the Fab Four's first American tour from start to finish. As such he had unfettered access to John, Paul, George and Ringo, allowing him to spend a great deal of time with them, relaxing in their hotel rooms; sharing long nights of card and Monopoly games as they talked-- sometimes quite frankly--about their bizarre new life. He even ghosted a regular newspaper column for George.
Davis will take the stage on Saturday, August 22 at 7pm to give his insider's account of being with The Beatles during that 34-day period. Following the Q&A, the theater celebrates the 50th Anniversary (1965) of the release of "Help", starring The Beatles, with a screening at 8pmin widescreen with digital projection.
Tickets are $20.00 general admission and available on line, at Seastrand (919 Linden Ave., cash or check only) or at Rincon Music (5432-C Carpinteria Ave., cash or check only), and at the theater box office prior to showtime.
