Sgt. Pepper
It's hard to imagine that 50 years have so quickly gone by since The Beatles performed an outdoor concert at Shea Stadium in New York on August 15, 1965. To commemorate that show, the Plaza Playhouse Theater will present the tribute band "Sgt. Pepper" on August 15 at 8pm, exactly 50 years to the day of that historic event! In doing so, Sgt. Pepper will recreate the Beatles song listin orderjust as the Fab Four played it that eventful day.
This couldn't be a better time to be recreating the music of the Beatles since their entire catalogue has recently been re-mastered and issued to celebrate the band's landing on America's shores in 1964. And the party hasn't stopped. The Beatles are still the most popular recording artists of all time, with fans ranging from teenagers to septuagenarians (Wait a minute, are you saying the baby boomers are getting older?!)
Sgt. Pepper consists of several well-known Southern California musicians and singers who came together to form the group: Tom Kolb (lead guitar, lead/background vocals); Lynn "Skins" Coulter (drums, lead/background vocals); Dennis Neil Jones (bass/keyboards, lead vocals) and Bill Horn (guitar, lead/background vocals) all have a mutual love and enthusiasm of Beatles music.
Following the Shea Stadium set, Sgt. Pepper will launch into other songs in the Beatles song book as well highly recognizable tunes from the British Invasion era. Along the way, there'll be special graphics and photos projected on a screen above the group, taking the audience back to the mid-60s and an era when it seemed as though the musicand the vibe--would never stop.
Tickets are $20.00 general admission and available on line, at Seastrand (919 Linden Ave., cash or check only) or at Rincon Music (5432-C Carpinteria Ave., cash or check only), and at the theater box office prior to showtime.
