Africa Live: Traditional African Performance meets Classical African Music
Sankusem Inc. is dedicated to sharing the beauty of African music and dance in traditional, classical and fusion forms.
Our artists represent many nationalities, and have come together through a shared passion for new music forms, traditional African forms and all that lies between. The philosophical ethic inherent at these performances is one of harmonious relationships, creating courageous new forms and artistic mixes and bringing the authentic inspiration of a far continent directly to western ears.
This concert brings together an impressive roster of eminent international artists including Chicago-based violinist Rachel Barton Pine, a sought after soloist world wide who frequently appears on the cover of Strings and other major classical magazines; Master drummer Obo Addy and his Okropong Drum & Dance Ensemble; UK/African soprano/conductor Margaret Ferguson, called "Africa's Lady of Song", who has performed operas, oratorios, spirituals, and jazz concerts throughout the UK, Europe, United States, and Africa; English cellist Sally Singer, on faculty at Whitman College and Artistic Director of Sankusem; Pianists Amy Rubin and George Francois; Violist Heather Bentley, Violinist Jennifer Caine
