Wine Wednesdays: The coolest grapes you've (probably!) never heard of.
Torrontes, Mavrodaphne, Romorantin, Vranec, Okuzgozu: no, these are not the new hip names that Hollywood Stars are choosing for their babies-- these are some of the most important wine grapes in the world. In some cases, these are "ancient" cultivars that pre-date more famous, well-known wine grapes. And before you think these wines will be "strange," they are quite well known and beloved in their respective countries or regions of origin, and only considered "rare" or strange to us in the United States. Meanwhile, in some areas, these ancient cultivars are being torn out and replaced with newer, more "well known" grapes.
