10^10 Blow Out
10^10 is collaborating with local Asheville artists and designers to raise awareness about the significance of design and of its potential to have exponential power with this fundraiser event. Martha Skinner, founder of 10^10, has brought together a dynamic group of Asheville's artists and designers to create a performance that communicates 10^10's mission to promote simple design ideas that have exponentially positive effects on humanity and the environment.
Through a visual, auditory and kinesthetic performance, guests are invited to experience first-hand the power of design and envision how it can effect the world. The Pink Dog Creative will display several 10^10 projects that exemplify the qualities of simple and beautiful design ideas that have exponentially positive effects on humanity and the environment. These include a sonic wall that absorbs airborne pollution while lining highways with beguiling lights, a collective film that reveals what healthy interaction between individuals and their cities might look like, a dispersed memorial for the victims of 9/11 prompting a collective conversation and exchange, and an interface which makes design accessible to all by allowing people who wouldn't normally be able to afford a custom-designed home to participate in the design of their own.
Everyone is welcome to join the 10^10 team and its guests for the immersive, collective, and exponential performance by local Asheville artists and designers. Martha Skinner has curated an eclectic ensemble including garment designer Brooke Priddy from Ship to Shore, performer and signer Molly Kummerle from Paper Tiger, dancers and choreographers Susan and Giles from The Asheville Contemporary Dance Theatre, new-media artist Gene Felice from the Creative Technology and Art Center (hosted by the Odyssey Community School), acoustical engineer, Scott Shepard from Kuma Sonics, sound artist, Elisa Faires, and the theorist and media-artist David McConville from Elumenati and the Buckminster Fuller Institute.
Guests will get to enjoy bites provided by Mark Rosenstein from The French Broad, Lessons from an Appalachian Table and by Anoop Krishnan from BOCA and wine from 5 Walnut Wine Bar.
All guests are invited to attend the performance and to dance and celebrate afterward at 342 Depot Street from 7:30 pm until midnight. In addition, guests are welcome to express their own vision of exponential design at the event. These visions could range from a garment that incorporates the pink of the event-venue to a powerful statement of pinks accumulating into the red hue of 10^10 itself. Simple gestures can have an exponential effect, so ideas at any scale are encouraged. By continuing the exponential potential of this event by sharing the experience with others, guests can facilitate the work of 10^10 and pursue their own creative and simple yet powerful visions for improving the world.
