Horror Academy
Babes With Blades begins their 2007-2008, 10th anniversary season with Horror Academy, a world premiere by Chicago Dramatists playwright Darren Callahan, directed by Jeremy Wechsler. Vampires, cannibals, and zombies populate three one-acts (Three Lines, Everything's Different Here, and Where Is the Breakdown?) and five monologues (Red Message 1-5), which explore classic horror and thriller archetypes while retaining their own unique flavor. This all-female, suspense-driven drama features multiple styles of stage combat, including knife, found weapon, and unarmed. Presented promenade-style in the intimate environs of the North Lakeside Cultural Center, these pieces put both horror and combat right in the audience's laps. The show runs about 90 minutes with no intermission. Special events: 1) free copies of Muldoon: A True Chicago Ghost Story will be given to first 100 show attendees (books courtesy of Chicago's own Lake Claremont Press); and 2) audience members who wear costumes to the Halloween shows on October 28, 30 and 31 will receive spooky treats.
