Have you ever eavesdropped on a coffee shop conversation?

It's okay; it happens. Maybe you listened in on a job interview or a first date, a study session or a heartfelt confession. In that moment, maybe you realized that all the latte-sipping strangers around you have rich stories to tell.

In its upcoming production, Swallow-a-Bicycle Theatre takes coffee shop eavesdropping to the next level.

This September, Eavesdrop: The Coffee Shop Show comes to one of Calgary's favourite new coffee shops: Café Blanca. The play is performed during the coffee shop's regular hours, without disrupting their operations. If someone wants to sit down with an espresso and mind their own business, they can! But, sitting at the next table, you'll be enjoying an immersive theatre experience.

When you buy a ticket, we'll hand you wireless headphones that let you eavesdrop on six characters, seemingly normal coffee-drinking patrons who each have burning secrets to share. You'll meet a trio of old friends, a frustrated writer, a man searching for connection and a troubled stranger. You'll listen not only to their words, but to their innermost thoughts and feelings.

After a whirlwind 45-minute performance that transports you to another world, you'll remove the headphones to find yourself back in your local coffee shop but you'll never look at it the same way again.

Tickets $15, $12 for students/seniors/low-income.
