Voxhaul Broadcast and Ocean Grove with Robert Schwartzman of Rooney
Bands come together in various ways, usually by chance meetings, Craigslist ads, or music class- but few can say their lineup was created after sharing the experience of playing in a backing band for one of the biggest bands in the world. After touring the globe and enjoying some of the greatest times of their lives, John Taylor (vocals/guitar), Ryan Liestman (Keys/Backing Vocals ), Greg Garbowsky (bass/backing vocals), Jack Lawless (drums) decided it was time to start their own project, one that would see them develop a truly unique rock n' roll sound Ocean Grove.
The LA Times just picked Voxhaul Broadcast as one of the "buzz bands" to watch in 2008, hailing their "soul-infused rock" while the Futuresounds blog says "one listen to this batch of songs and you'd never guess this band was from Orange County, feels more like Manchester, England, but it's true. With lyrics like "I need your love in my blood, so I cut off all my limbs", what's not to like? A band with massive amounts of potential and star power in surplus."
Now with the upcoming release of "Rotten Apples," a name they chose as a state of comparison for the current climate of the music industry, the band ready to take off. They showcased at CMJ the past October, played Sundance in January, will be performing at the Noise Pop fest in SF in February and will be appearing every Monday in March at Spaceland in LA. The band will also be making their SXSW debut this year. With UK dates scheduled for later this year these performances are sure to establish them as one of 2008's most memorable and genuinely indie rock bands.
Robert Coppola Schwartzman (born December 24, 1982) is an American actor and musician. Schwartzman is also best known as the lead vocalist of the rock/pop band Rooney. He has also acted in the short black-and-white film Lick the Star and The Virgin Suicides, both directed and co-written by his cousin Sofia Coppola, as well as The Princess Diaries. Robert will be releasing his solo album, Double Capricorn, in October
