First Ever dinner PFA at Taylor Railworks with Erik Van Kley
Erik Van Kley staked a serious flag in the Portland food world after being given the position of Executive Chef at Little Bird Bistro by his close friend and kitchen confidante, Gabe Rucker. Little Bird was developed with Chef Van Kley in mind as the Executive Chef after working side by side with Rucker at Le Pigeon and Gotham City Tavern for years. It didn't take long for Little Bird to garner huge attention from critics and diners alike with Best Restaurant awards along with packed houses day and night.
A native of Grand Rapids, Michigan, Erik Van Kley entered the culinary circuit in 1994 as a line cook at Rose's Restaurant, a landmark in his lakeside hometown, where he gained exposure to both worldly food and technique. It was there that Erik met his first mentor, sous chef Jason Knickerbocker. His food career later took him to France and then to Scottsdale, and then his curiosity and ambition led him to Portland, where he landed in the kitchen of the now famous Gotham City Tavern, where so many of Portland's finest worked together and honed their skills over a decade ago.
Now, Chef Van Kley is stepping out to helm his own new restaurant in the SE Industrial District, as yet to be named. The space, steps from the railroad tracks on SE Taylor, will be a labor of love Van Kley is developing with his longtime partner, Gabriela Ramos. More soon on what to expect with the fresh, locally-sourced menu.
PFA is proud to offer you the opportunity to enjoy and remember the first dinner ever served to the public at the new restaurant.
Portland Food Adventures events are a great date idea, and perfect for clients or small groups. Multi-course dinner and wine/drinks AND GRATUITY are included in the ticket.
Chef Erik will discuss some of his favorite Portland places, and all guests will leave with gift certificates to at least two of them to try at their leisure. STELLA TACO, ROOST, FIFTY LICKS and ACCANTO.
