La Peña's show of the summer! Artists from the Bay Area, France, and Portland come together for a special evening of flamenco. With ANDREA LA CANELA (baile), CRISTO CORTES (cante), RICARDO DIAZ (toque), & BRENNA McDONALD (baile)

CRISTO CORTÉS
Cristo Cortés is recognized as the greatest French flamenco singer thanks to his unique voice timbre and knowledge of flamenco associated long experience of the scene. Cristo Cortés was born in Marseille in 1971 in a family of singers from the region of Almeria (Andalusia). In 1996, he began with the great singer Carmen Linares, a tour of France and Spain. In 1998, he was invited to sing at the Cafe Chinitas, Madrid & Los Gallos, Sevilla. He participated in the Flamenco Biennial of Lyon & Seville. Toured Tokyo, United States, Mexico, Canada, Switzerland, Germany, Greece, and Guadeloupe in French Caribbean.

RICARDO DIAZ
Ricardo Diaz discovered the art of flamenco in San Francisco, CA, where he began his studies & worked in 'tablaos'. Known for his knowledge, passion and original compositions; Ricardo started traveling with Gypsy singer Cristo Cortes and Flamenco Sur, performing in New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, San Diego, Portland, London, Amsterdam, Geneva, Marseille and Paris. Performing in Seville, Spain led to his recording 'Travesura' & later tours in Mexico, Japan, & China.

ANDREA LA CANELA
Andrea La Canela is flamenco dancer and teacher 25+ years.  Well versed the art after studies in California, New Mexico & Spain. Andrea's love of improvisation & extensive background in ballet & modern dance lends itself to true dance understanding. Most influential teachers were Diana Alejandro, La Tania, Belen Maya, Juana Amaya, Ciro, & El Guito. A soloist in Arte Flamenco for 5 years before forming her own company Los Flamencos del Pueblo & working in San Francisco Bay Area. Performing in Spain 2009, Mexico, Central America, New York City & North Carolina 2008, in addition to most of her years throughout California, has filled a lifetime flamenco career. She recently lived in Spain 2yrs & immersed herself in the flamenco life of gypsies found in Andalusia.
