Nelson Lunding and Friends
Nelson has been visiting and playing music in the Point Arena and Gualala area for the last 7 years. He is best described as a modern-day version of the traveling piano men, a tradition that traces its roots back to the early 1900's. He is a saloon piano player, band leader, juke joint singer, itinerant troubadour, and keeper of the flame. He plays a rocking, muscular piano propelled by a driving left hand. It is a gripping, kinetic music that demands to be danced to. When he plays for a crowd, they are experiencing the true embodiment of this very American genre.
For many years Nelson lived and performed in New Orleans and it is impossible to miss the New Orleans influence on his music: Nelson has created his own gumbo using the tricks of the New Orleans piano greats.
Nelson will be accompanied by Keith Abrams (bass), Chris Doering (guitar), Chris Campbell (drums), additional vocals by Karla Herrera. Doors open at 8:00 PM and the Arena Theater bar and snack stand will be open. Tickets are $12 online, $10 for members at the door, $8 for youth (16 and under)
