Lully: Suite from "Le Bourgeois Gentilhomme" Beethoven: Quartet Op. 95, arr. A Far Cry Respighi: Ancient Airs and Dances, Book 3 Dvorak: Serenade for Strings, op. 22
Is the old new and the new old? Do our memories play tricks on us? A Far Cry's second concert features an upbeat suite of 17th century French music from Jean-Baptiste Lully's "Le Bourgeois Gentilhomme," and pairs it with Ottorino Respighi's lovely and lazy 20th century "Ancient Airs and Dances." Beethoven's agonizing and always modern Quartet op. 95 is matched, in turn, with a later work: Dvorak's gorgeous Serenade, which gives the impression of having been nostalgia-lled even in its day.
