The Sonshine Boys Southern Gospel Quartet
The Sonshine Boys Quartet hail from Logansport, Indiana. A Southern Gospel Quartet, they have traveled around Indiana and southern Michigan, spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ through song. They love to sing His Word and uplift His name as Lord and Savior.
The Sonshine Boys have a new CD out, all original songs and is titled "In Jesus Name". This work is named after a song written by baritone Paul Stephen Lewis. It is selling well and they believe it to be their best project to date. They are also working on putting together the songs for another CD with a lot of the old favorites that many have been asking for and are planning a late Fall 2011 release date.
Sonshine Boys Members:
Larry Pierce sings lead for the quartet. He is an Air Reserve Technician with the 434th Air Refueling Wing at Grissom Air Reserve Base. He enjoys playing guitar and mandolin, golf, baseball, basketball, buying and selling cars, and spending time with his wife Kathy. He has three children and 11 grandchildren. Larry also handles the booking and scheduling for the quartet, and enjoys arranging, writing, and listening to southern gospel and country gospel music.
Jeff Strite is the tenor for the quartet. He is also the Preaching Minister at the Church of Christ at Logansport. Jeff plays guitar and banjo and has written a couple of songs for the group and helped arrange a number of other songs. His influences include Chad Mitchel Trio, Brothers Four, and the Lettermen. Jeff sang with the Purdue Glee Club for two years under Al Stewart.
Dave Broad serves as the bass singer. A founding member of the Sonshine Boys, Dave has sung for Christ since his immersion on June 19th, 1966. Through middle, high school, and as a Bible college graduate, he has found music to be integral to his life. Dave also contributes harmonica melodies and says he plays a pretty "mean" comb and wax paper.
He serves his church family as deacon, religious education director, Sunday School teacher, supply preaches for area churches, and assists his wife, Tammy, with church building custodial responsibilities. Dave is the proud father of three adult family members, Tom, Tim, and Tasha. He is a grandfather of two girls, Peyton and Jadyn, and two grandsons, Logan and Quinn. Dave is indeed a happy family man.
Paul Lewis sings baritone for the quartet. He lives with his wife, Jeannie, with 3 dogs and 2 cats. His hobbies are camping and fishing, writing songs, playing guitar, and singing at his local church. Paul has sung and played guitar with various Christian groups. He organized events in the Aurora, Illinois area including concerts, evangelistic preaching, and a special annual event for children. Paul looks forward to singing with the Sonshine Boys and spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ through song. Paul also has written a patriotic song that uplifts our military, inspired by his son's service in the Army and his tour of duty in Iraq in 2003.
Bass guitarist, Chuck DeFord, has joined the group and does an outstanding job! Chuck played with the local group "Light" for 23 years and everyone is glad to have him as part of the Sonshine Boys group.
Sandra has been involved with music most of her life. She and her twin sister, along with their college music teacher, have produced one CD and have traveled in many states to participate in revival meetings. Sandra has arranged music, directed many vocal combos, accompanied on either the piano or organ at numerous churches, and supervised the music as well as directing church choirs. She has also been involved with the Musettes Music club at Oxford, Ind. for over 25 years. Learning to play Southern Gospel music has been a challenge to Sandra, but serving the Lord in this way and with Godly men is a rewarding experience.
