Snakes
August 20-23, 2015 Destiny Arts Center Studio Theatre
by Chris Webb Directed by Tyrone Davis Snakes, a Collaborative Youth Arts Project, is a play created especially for 12 young actors from three arts communities, united together in an exciting production performed at A.C.T.'s new Strand Theater and Oakland's Destiny Arts Center. This world premiere includes a cast of young actors from A.C.T.'s Education & Community Programs, the Young Conservatory, and Oakland's Destiny Arts Center.
The new Collaborative Youth Arts Project initiative brings together a diverse group of young actors from all over the Bay Area in the creation of a play about race, bigotry, and the very meaning of the American dream. In the wake of a cataclysmic earthquake, a newly discovered island that is home to a race of silver-skinned people captures the world's attention. Infused with spirited poetry and movement, Snakes is a thought-provoking new play that asks timely questions about tolerance, justice, and community in a rapidly changing America.
