This lecture will focus on three aspects of oral cancer, the clinical presentation, etiology and available diagnostic tests. It will focus on the clinical presentation of a variety of white lesions, mixed red and white lesions to include lichen planus, predominantly red lesions and non-healing ulcers. The etiology of oral cancer will be discussed in detail to include the role of HPV in the posterior mouth squamous cell carcinoma. These topics will be discussed in a concise and clear manner, giving the dental hygienists information that they can use on a daily basis. SESSION 2 Presenter: Dr. Brad Johnson Course Outline: Discuss the rationale for pathogen testing, techniques for assessing the bacteria, test results and ramifications for additional antimicrobial therapy, anticipated therapeutic results. An area of overlap in our topics might include salivary testing for HPV, as one of the companies that make perio pathogen DNA probes also produce a salivary HPV testing kit.
