Djangophiles - Community Concert and Dance
Tickets at the door are $20 each. We will set up the Hall so that there is plenty of room for DANCERS!
Our main influence is our name sake the great Belgian/French Gypsy guitarist Django Reinhardt, who together with Stephane Grappeli formed the famous "Hot club of France" in 1934, and based on their collaborations and the Gypsy guitar styling's of Django, a whole new style of Jazz was developed.called Le jazz hot.
Django Reinhardt has astounded and thrilled numerous generations of guitar players and jazz lovers with his amazing command of the guitar and his influence is evident even today.
This music has an infectious driving rhythm and incorporates most of the standard pop and jazz tunes of the 20s, 30's, 40's, and 50's . As well as many modern day compositions. The Djangophiles, in keeping with the tradition of the music use acoustic instruments, and sound reinforcement only when necessary. The result is a comfortable listening level that is never too loud or intrusive.
The Djangophiles pay homage to-you guessed it-Django Reinhardt. And like the Euro-jazz pioneer, they keep their brand of Gypsy jazz strictly acoustic. The double-bass beats a mellow up and down while the two guitars pick out the melody: the violin mostly hangs back but occasionally intervenes , crosscutting songs with folfy hints of Eastern Europe.
This is a group of adept musicians- who play Vino Paradiso weekly, by the way- doing their idol justice. One of the many bands trying to emulate Reinhardt , The Djangophiles do what they do very well ETHAN SMITH.
