Chuckanut Radio Hour with Special Guest David Guterson author of Ed King
The Chuckanut Radio Hour is a radio variety show that began in January 2007. Each Chuckanut Radio Hour features a guest author and includes guest musicians, performance poet Kevin Murphy, Cascadia Weekly columnist Alan Rhodes, an episode of "The Bellingham Bean" serial radio comedy, and some groaner jokes by hosts Chuck & Dee Robinson and announcer Rich Donelly. The Chuckanut Radio Hour's first guest was Erik Larson and has since included William Dietrich, Elizabeth George, J.A. Jance, Sherman Alexie, Tom Robbins and Garrison Keillor, among many others. November's musical guests are Scrub and Megan Hubner. Doors open at 6:30pm, and you must be seated by 6:45pm as the show begins promptly at 7pm. Co-sponsored by the Leopold Residence. Receive one free ticket with each pre-event, in-store purchase of Ed King.
Our November guest will be author David Guterson for his new novel, Ed King.
In Seattle in 1962, Walter Cousins, a mild-mannered actuary--"a guy who weighs risk for a living"--takes a risk of his own, and makes the biggest error of his life. He sleeps with Diane Burroughs, the sexy, not-quite-legal British au pair who's taking care of his children for the summer. Diane gets pregnant and leaves their baby on a doorstep, but not before turning the tables on Walter and setting in motion a tragedy of epic proportions. Their orphaned child, adopted by an adoring family and named Edward Aaron King, grows up to become a billionaire Internet tycoon and an international celebrity--the "King of Search"--who unknowingly, but inexorably, hurtles through life toward a fate he may have no power to shape.
An instant classic--David Guterson's most daring and dazzling novel yet--that brings a contemporary urgency to one of the greatest stories of all time.
David Guterson's Snow Falling on Cedars won the PEN/Faulkner Award and the American Booksellers Association Book of the Year Award, among others. He is a contributing editor at Harper's magazine and lives on an island in Puget Sound.
