The Jasper String Quartet - Five Fridays Concert Series
The Jasper String Quartet will present an evening of music by candlelight, followed by a reception to greet the artist. All proceeds benefit Face-to-Face Germantown, the Interfaith Hospitality Network, and Saint Paul's Chorister Program.
Hailed as "sonically delightful and expressively compelling" (The Strad) and for playing "with sparkling vitality and great verveThey are polished, engaged, and in tune with one another" (Classical Voice of North Carolina), the Jasper String Quartet enjoys prestigious appointments as Quartet-in-Residence at Oberlin Conservatory, Ensemble-in-Residence at Classic Chamber Concerts in Naples, Florida, and the 2009-2011 Ernst C. Stiefel String Quartet-in-Residence at the Caramoor Center for Music and Arts. Originally formed at Oberlin Conservatory, they have performed throughout the U.S., and in Canada, England, Italy, Japan, Korea, and Norway. After winning the Grand Prize and the Audience Prize in the 2008 Plowman Chamber Music Competition, the Jasper Quartet went on to win the Grand Prize at the 2008 Coleman Competition, First Prize at Chamber Music Yellow Springs 2008, and the Silver Medal at the 2008 and 2009 Fischoff Chamber Music Competitions. They were the first ensemble to win the Yale School of Music's Horatio Parker Memorial Prize, in 2009, an award established in 1945 and selected by the faculty for "best fulfilling lofty musical ideals." The quartet also won Astral Artists' 2010 National Auditions and made their Philadelphia recital debut on Astral's series in October 2010. The Jasper String Quartet has commissioned four string quartets from today's up-and-coming composers, and critics and audiences continue to commend their "programming savvy" (clevelandclassical.com). They have brought well over 100 outreach programs into schools and enjoy educational work of all types.
The members of The Jasper String Quartet are J Freivogel, violin; Sae Chonabayashi, violin; Sam Quintal, viola; and Rachel Henderson Freivogel, cello.
