The Taylor O'Donnell Group~A Night of Unsung Heroes and Forgotten Treasures
Colorado-native Taylor O'Donnell is a contemporary vocalist who uses her roots in jazz, folk and R&B to explore a mixture of beloved standards and originals. From interpreting her own folk and jazz influenced original music to taking on the beloved melodies of Joni Mitchell and contemporary standards, Taylor is a vocal improviser who uses timbre and vocal effects to communicate much of her musical dialogue. She will be joined by Seth Lewis on bass, Chris Klaxton on keys, and Les Harris Jr. on drums, as they deliver treasured jazz standards with their usual contemporary treatment.
Highlights of Taylor's performing career have been an appearance on the Oprah Winfrey Show working with producer David Foster, performing at Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center in NYC with renowned vocal groups GoldCompany and VoicesIowa, working as a studio singer in Miami with Grammy award winning producer Rudy Perez, singing the National Anthem for the NFL Miami Dolphins' home games from 2010-2011, and singing background vocals for singer-songwriter Ben Folds. Taylor has shared the stage with Donny McCaslin, Anais Mitchell, Lyle Mays, Fred Hersch, Jamey Haddad, Janis Siegel, the Real Group, New York Voices, Sunny Wilkinson, Peter Eldridge, Lauren Kinhan, and with choral group, Seraphic Fire.
Most recently, Taylor O'Donnell can be seen performing with the original Retro-soul group Mother Superior and the Sliding Royales (www.mosuperior.com), fronting her self-titled jazz band, is a member of the visual art/jazz performance group "In Ears 'N Eyes" and performs regularly with numerous bands around the Seacoast. Currently, she is a professor at Bowdoin College teaching Jazz and Contemporary Voice, and Artist Faculty in Jazz Voice at the University of Southern Maine. In addition to teaching contemporary jazz style and vocal technique for all ages and experience levels, she is available for composition and piano lessons.
Reviews:
"Taylor O'Donnell's vocals are demurely beautiful. They help to crystallize the burrowing, textured sounds of the track with precision, gauging each with tempered expertise." -Liz Choi. Earmilk Online
"Taylor had all the melodies, vocal turns and intervals that makes Mitchell's songs so alluring and challenging to sing. And, while the performances were so true to the original performances by Mitchell, Taylor owned the songs in her own right last night with both her personal convictions to the lyrics and an unabashed tribute to the Mistress of Confessional Songs." - Audience Member
"O'Donnell sings with demanding prowess and originality. Her voice is a refined instrument, demonstrating a unique mixture of textures and sounds." Review of August 2014 performance at the Music Hall Loft.
