Pelleas and Melisande
by Maurice Maeterlinck translated and directed by Rob Melrose
Pelleas & Melisande has all the ingredients for a fairy tale: a princess in distress, a handsome prince, and a beautiful castle. Yet this seminal avant-garde play by French symbolist Maurice Maeterlinck, in a new translation by Cutting Ball Artistic Director Rob Melrose, reveals that it is easy to hide secrets in the shadows of the familiar. After Melisande's royal wedding, her growing feelings for the prince's brother Pelleas threaten to jeopardize her happily ever after. The story of their tragic love affair has inspired music from Claude Debussy's opera to orchestral works by Gabriel Faure, and Jean Sibelius. Director Rob Melrose's production will feature a musical score by composer Cliff Caruthers, choreography by Laura Arrington, and video installation by Wesley Cabral.
Pelleas & Melisande runs approximately one hour and 40 minutes, with no intermission.
Featuring Derek Fischer, Bennett Fisher, Paul Gerrior, Caitlyn Louchard, Brittany Kilcoyne McGregor, Paula Carli, Gwyneth Richards, Jessica Jade Rudholm, and Joshua Schell.

Q&A
Question: |
food, wine available???? |
Answer: |
we do serve concessions at the theater, but that they are limited to snacks, coffee, tea, sparkling and still water, and a few sodas. There are a few locations near by to get a glass of wine or beer before or after the show. My current favorites are: 50 Mason Social Club(50 Mason St. between Turk and Eddy) - serves beer, wine, alcohol and bar snacks but not substantial food. We'll be hosting our pre-show happy hour and Dramaturgy 101 here on Thursday nights. They'll be offering our patrons a discount, we'll post that information on our website as soon as its confirmed. Jasper's Corner Tap & Kitchen(401 Taylor Street) - Serves beer, wine, alcohol and a great selection of small plates and larger meals. This has a sleek sports bar atmosphere and is open both before and after the performance. The Grand Cafe: Brasserie and Bar (501 Geary at Taylor Street): If you're looking for a classy pre-show dining experience, or a relaxed upscale bar experience, this is it.If you have any other questions please email boxoffice@cuttingball.com. Thanks! Kat Bushnell, box office manager |
